With the rapid economic development, air quality is gradually declining, and air pollution is increasing, which has a serious impact on human health.



In 1999, EU’s survey on air pollution sources showed that 51% of air pollutants (NOx) were emitted by road motor vehicles, and 28% were emitted by industrial production. The existence of high concentrations NOx in the air for a long time will not only bring a large number of respiratory diseases to humans, but also form acid rain, which will bring disaster to crops. Particulate matter emitted by motor vehicles contains some PAHs, some of which contain carcinogenic elements.



In the pollution sources of exhaust emissions from motor vehicles, diesel engine vehicles take more than 90%. so the control of exhaust emissions from diesel engine vehicles is very important. That is to say, controlling diesel engine exhaust pollution will also control the entire air quality.

In 1999, EU proposed strict standards for diesel engine vehicle exhaust emissions, that is, the implementation of the Euro 4 stage standard in 2005, and the implementation of the Euro 5 emission standard in 2008. Compared with the Euro 3 emission standard, the Euro 4 standard reduces nitrogen oxides by 30% and particulate matter by 80%; the Euro 5 emission standard limit will be further reduced in 2008. In addition, the exhaust gas limits for carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons will be further reduced from Euro 4.

The NOx in the exhaust gas of the engine and the injected aqueous urea solution are hydrolyzed under the action of the catalyst into NH3 and C02 which are non-polluting to the air and are discharged, meeting the requirements of Euro 4, Euro 5 and Euro 6 emission standards.
